to redeem the electronic and électro-domestic waste.
The treatment of the DEEE is a historic preoccupation of Darty, because, from 1973, the brand made a commitment contractually with his customers to clearthem free of charge of their old machin during the delivery of a new model (article 5 of the Contrat de Confiance). On November 15th, 2006, a new rule relative to the Waste of the Electric and electronic Equipments is set up in France, within the framework of a Europen Directive. To redeem the got back waste, Darty took 3 major initiatives:
- The construction of a waste reception center, situated near a national warehouse, to Mitry-Mory ( Seine-et-Marne).
- A partnership concluded with envy since 1984. The Envie program manages a network of centres forming unemployed persons in the repair of products électrodomestiques. During a program of two years, the trainees recondition worn products which are then resold second-hand at a reduced price in stores Envie.
- A membership in the major eco-body in France, Eco-systèmes, to answer the new obligations of the European directive today.
We have also set ourselves the target of reducing the amount of packaging we use and ensuring that it is recyclable.
We take away all packaging when we deliver electrical goods to your home. Packaging is collected in our warehouses and after-sales service centres. All the stores send their waste packaging to a sorting centre for recycling. Last year, Darty recycled 16,763 tonnes of used packaging, of which 95% was channelled to recycling or reuse.
Still in the field of environmental protection, we make every effort to reduce polluting emissions during our transport operations.
The European directive on the restriction of dangerous substances has been adopted with a view to restricting the use of certain substances in household electrical appliances, to facilitate their recycling and protect health and the environment. We have introduced several measures to ensure compliance with this directive: compliance declarations from our suppliers, checks to detect prohibited substances and special checks in the factory. The restriction of dangerous substances directive is designed to complement the WEEE Directive on waste electrical and electronic equipment.
